Overview of Digital Assets

Understand and organize your site’s digital assets.

What is a digital asset?

A digital asset is a binary file such as:

  • Images - PNG, JPG, SVG, WEBP
  • Videos - MP4, MP3, WebM
  • Documents - PDF, DOCX, XLSX
 

Digital assets can be used independently or as foundational elements within content items, such as images for hero banners, logos, thumbnails, icons, and downloadable files like PDFs.

How to Add a Digital Asset to a Repository

Assets must be added to a repository before they can be used or published

Step 1: Navigate to Assets

Under Asset Management, select Assets

Step 2: Select the Repository

In the repository selector, choose the repository where the asset should live

Step 3: Add the File

Click Add and either select a file from your computer or drag and drop the file into the upload area. A panel will appear to select the confirm the asset for upload.

Step 4: Review and Change Asset Details

After upload, you can:

  • Edit the name, description, and friendly URL slug for the item
  • Add the asset to a publishing channel or assign a taxonomy category

Publishing a Digital Asset

Select the asset and click Publish. Once published the asset is visible to on Content Lion sites, content items, and headless APIs.
