Understanding the Makeup of Content Types

Every piece of content in Content Lion is structured based on a Content Type. A content type defines the set of fields, validation rules, and formatting that shape the content item. These content items are standardized building blocks for managing and delivering consistent digital content.

Each content type is composed of various data fields that define the structure of a content item. The supported field types include:

Field Type	Description
Text	Allows up to 2000 characters. Ideal for short to medium text blocks.
Media	Supports uploading videos, images, and documents from the DAM.
Datetime	Captures date and time values.
Number	Stores signed integer values.
Decimal	Stores precise numeric values (e.g., double or decimal).
Boolean	Accepts `TRUE` or `FALSE` values.

Structured Content Types

Structured content types contain the following elements:

Properties

Define the fields (text, media, number, etc.) required for the content type. These are configured in the Field Properties tab on the Edit Content Type page.

Relationships

Content types can be connected to each other to create logical hierarchies or dependencies:

One content type can be a parent or supporting type for another.

These relationships are defined on the Relationships tab.

For the "Behaviors" content type, the Proficiency Calculation Rule is fixed to "Average" and cannot be modified.

Once established, relationships cannot be deleted, but you may set an end date to deactivate them.

Restrictions:

A content type cannot have multiple types of relationships with the same content type.

A content type cannot reference itself.

Asset Types in Content Lion

Content Items are made from the Structure of Content Types

Content items types define the metadata structure for digital assets and separate content from presentation. This enables flexible reuse of assets across different views and contexts.

Type	Purpose
Digital Asset Types	Define metadata for raw files like images, videos, and documents. Includes system data (e.g., creation date), device metadata (e.g., camera info), and custom fields (e.g., copyright). Examples include: `File`, `Image`, `Video`.
Content Types	Specify structured field sets for content items. Each content type can be linked to multiple layout templates, allowing it to render differently in various contexts (e.g., employee profile vs. manager view).

With appropriate permissions, admins can create and manage asset types under Asset Management > Content > Dropdown Content Types.

Each asset type consists of field definitions—like title, body, author, and image—that users fill out when creating new assets.

After defining an asset type, it must be added to a repository and assigned contributor access so users can create assets of that type.
